Using a Thumball can be fun within any group. They will help you to introduce an activity, set ground rules, and manage sticky situations when they arise within a group setting. A few facilitation suggestions include the follow:

  • Critique ideas not people
  • Speak only for yourself
  • No personal attacks
  • Listen - make sure everyone feels heard and validated
  • Only one person speaks at a time
  • Use "I" statements
  • Agree to disagree; disagree without being disagreeable
  • Be positive and non-judgemental; open to new ideas

HOW IT WORKS: Someone throws the ball, another team member catches it and then responds to the prompt under their thumb.
